Another London art fair, The Other Art Fair distinguishes itself by being the country’s largest ‘artist-led’ fair. That means that works are sold directly by the artist rather than through a gallery. As well as the opportunity to buy art, this week’s fair features an events programme that includes live music, talks, cocktail masterclasses and, of course, a pop-up restaurant.

When: November 22-25

Where: Ambika P3, 35 Marylebone Road, London NW1 5LSTube: Baker Street

OPENING TIMES
9am – 5pm daily

London Gallery West is delighted to present an exhibition of photography by University of Westminster alumnus Siobhán Doran. The exhibition documents the architectural changes and the building works in the first phase of the Hawkins\Brown Architects redevelopment of the Harrow Campus. Doran’s closely observed and delicately framed images sit at the juncture of architecture and art – they reveal the curious spatial metamorphosis of a world in transition…

This exhibition also marks the re-opening of London Gallery West in a new and improved venue in the ‘Forum’ at the heart of the School of Media, Arts and Design Campus. The newly built gallery has improved projection facilities, moveable walls and it’s bay windows look out onto the new campus entrance. The gallery is part of a redevelopment which links existing buildings and creates new learning spaces, project rooms and performance areas for the campus.

Doran has documented the building process throughout the year, revealing how refurbishment and new build can effectively be combined. Hawkins\Brown's design adds an impressive modern feel to a campus that is in need of cheering up. At a time of dramatic changes in funding for Higher Education this redevelopment is a very relevant model of using limited funds to link existing buildings with new space and create effective connections between it’s users.

Siobhán Doran was born in Dublin, Ireland (b.1969), and now lives in the UK. Initially trained in architectural technology, she worked for over a decade in architecture before graduating with a first class honours degree in photography from the University of Westminster. She has been a freelance artist since 2007. Siobhán focuses on both producing personal fine art projects and working with the design community; creating commissioned artwork and photographing contemporary and historic buildings.

Siobhán’s first book was Savoy | The Restoration (published in 2011 by Dewi Lewis Publishing). The book was supported by a solo exhibition of the photographs, one of which was selected for The Royal Academy of Arts Summer Exhibition in 2012. Prints from Savoy | The Restoration and from other projects will be on display at The Other Art Fair (from 22 – 26 November, Ambika P3.)
