A GILDED CAGE
Built with profits from his gilbert and Sullivan operas, richard D’oyly carte’s Savoy hotel opened in 1889. Its edwardian and later art deco inspired innards remaining as intact as its pedigree until 2007, when it closed its doors for a three-year, £220million refurbishment. photographer Siobhán Doran was lucky enough to witness the transformation. here, antique parrots and rabbits await their rehousing in the lancaster Ballroom.
